Local: The main focus of Solid Energy's sponsorship programme is initiatives which directly benefit our local mining communities:

• Huntly in the Waikato (Huntly East Underground Mine and Rotowaro Opencast Mines)
• West Coast (Stockton Opencast, Terrace Underground and Spring Creek Underground Mines)
• Mataura and Ohai in Southland (New Vale and Ohai Opencast Mines)

Environment: Solid Energy's overall environmental objective is to have a positive net effect on the New Zealand environment. As well as our ongoing site rehabilitation programme the company also funds environmental projects which contribute to our environmental policy.

Education: We fund education initiatives in our local communities and other projects and programmes which increase the knowledge base and profile of the mining industry. Some of our mine sites have established partnerships with local schools. Solid Energy runs an annual tertiary scholarship programme for high school students in our mining communities.

Heritage: Solid Energy supports historic heritage initiatives which promote the long history of coal mining in New Zealand.
