Solid Energy Scholarship For Greymouth Student
Greymouth's 17-year-old Hilary Wilson is this year's recipient of Solid Energy International's tertiary Strongman Scholarship valued at $2000 per annum up to four years.
Hilary's award was announced at Greymouth High School's prize giving ceremony last night. She will study Health Sciences at the University of Otago from next year.
The Strongman Scholarship was set up last year by Solid Energy International to recognise the place of the company's mining operations in the Grey area and the contribution of the local community to the company's operations. The scholarship is designed to support financially a student from either Greymouth or John Paul II High Schools who will be undertaking tertiary study in any discipline. An annual sum of $2000 is awarded up to a maximum of four years and subject to academic performance.
Grey Area Business Manager, Wayne Merriman, comments: "Solid Energy is very pleased that it can offer this scholarship which recognises leadership skills, academic achievement and community and school involvement. We wish Hilary well in her studies at Otago University and will follow her progress with interest."
