The Engineers' Union (EPMU) instigated a national overtime ban at Solid Energy sites on Monday, 25 June, along with low level industrial action.
The EPMU, Solid Energy and its contractors have been in negotiation since February for a new two-year multi-employer collective agreement (MECA) covering the company's mine sites.
Solid Energy's Chief Operating Officer, Barry Bragg says: "At this stage the action is not having a major effect on our business. We expect talks to resume when industrial action stops."
Bargaining for the new MECA, which expired on 31 March 2007, started in April this year and has taken place over 12 days. About 350 Solid Energy employees are covered by the MECA in the Waikato, West Coast and Southland, as well as 450 staff employed by contractors at Solid Energy sites.
