West Coast students awarded Solid Energy scholarships

Two West Coast students will find financing this year’s study a little easier thanks to a Solid Energy tertiary scholarship.

Sam McDonald from Greymouth and Matthew Evans from Hokitika will this year begin their tertiary studies at the University of Canterbury. Solid Energy scholarships are worth $2000 a year to each student for up to four years of study. 

Sam McDonald, who attended Greymouth High School, will be studying for a Bachelor of Commerce degree. “ It is great that Solid Energy offers these scholarships. It really helps to know that I will have financial support throughout my degree ,” says Sam.

Hokitika’s Matthew Evans was formerly a student at Westland High School. This year he will begin studying for a Bachelor of Science degree. “W ith Solid Energy’s support it will enable me to concentrate on my studies and worry less about finances ,” says Matthew.

Solid Energy’s tertiary scholarships are available to students from the West Coast, Southland and the Waikato and are awarded annually. A complete list of scholarship criteria can be found at www.coalnz.com.
