Solid Energy has released its fourth Environmental Report, detailing the company's environmental activities and assessing the its performance against its environmental objectives. In 2003, Solid Energy adopted its Environmental Policy and the principle that our overall environmental objective is for the cumulative result of all the activities we undertake to have a positive net effect on the New Zealand environment. In striving to achieve this objective, we undertake a significant amount of work that goes well beyond traditional expectations held by most of what constitutes normal business for a company like ours. The benefits of this investment can be seen in some of the outstanding outcomes we are achieving in direct transfer of vegetation, water quality improvements, the beneficial use of waste materials and the creation of public recreational resources from rehabilitated mine sites. Techniques developed at our sites are being used throughout the business, and are being adopted by others in the industry. |
